During the 1980's, the kit aircraft market was undergoing a sort of revolution; aircraft kits were becoming more sophisticated, faster and more capable. Manufacturers such as Glasair and Lancair developed kits for homebuilders that offered outstanding performance on relatively modest horsepower. Neico Aviation/Lancair had previously developed the model 200; a two seat aircraft designed for a Continental O-200. Of course, many builders asked how they could stuff larger engines into these kits. The curvy little rocket appealed to the eyes and checkbooks of many builders. The kits were a huge success, even though composite aircraft were relatively new.

Shortly after, Lancair beefed up the design to handle the Continental O-235, and later the Lycoming O-320 and O-360 engines. Hundreds of these kits were shipped, and hundreds are now flying with different combinations of engines, props, and other innovations. They are very sporty aircraft, and fly a little bit on the hot side...

"Unleashed" is a small tail Lancair 360, and was built by Dennis LeBlanc in 1995. It is the "biggest/mostest" version of the design. The white, red and black airplane has just about 500 hours total time as of late 2005. Scotty is the fourth owner of the aircraft, and will be modifying certain systems to bring it into a more competitive realm for the Reno National Championship Air Races.
